One story I nearly missed this weekend, but Tom Brady has been named as Most Valuable Player this season. Even better, the Patriots’ QB got elected nearly unanimous. Only one vote didn’t go to Brady, that one went to Brett Favre.
There was little reason not to choose Brady. His performance this year has been outstanding. Not only did he guide the Patriots to a perfect regular season, a number of records were broken along the way. He threw for 4,806 yards with 50 touchdowns (one more than Peyton Manning’s previous record), 23 of those to Randy Moss (one more than Jerry Rice’s record). The Patriots scored 589 points, which is a NFL record, and a total of 75 touchdowns (also a record). His passer rating of 117.2 is not a record (Manning had a rating of 121.1 in 2004), but still pretty good.
As with going 16-0 in the regular season, Brady will put little value in this award if he and the Patriots don’t get a win in the SuperBowl. But kudos to Brady who has had a better regular season in real-life than I’ve ever had in Madden on my Xbox 360.
